India vs West Indies 1st Test: India wins by innings & 140 runs

India vs West Indies on October 4 in Ahmedabad ended in a one-sided way. The hosts won by an innings and 140 runs in just three days at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Jadeja delivers with bat and ball

Vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja was the star of the match. With the bat, he scored an unbeaten 104 runs off 176 balls, striking six fours and five sixes. With the ball, he picked up four wickets for 54 runs in 13 overs, including three maidens.

Rahul and Jurel set up India’s huge total

The India vs West Indies clash also featured standout batting performances. KL Rahul hit his first home century since 2016, scoring 100 from 197 balls. This was his 10th Test hundred as an Indian opener, joining Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag, and Murali Vijay in an elite list.

Dhruv Jurel, making his mark as a wicketkeeper-batter, played a commanding knock of 125 runs from 210 balls with 15 fours and three sixes. His partnership with Jadeja added 206 runs for the fifth wicket, breaking the resistance of the West Indies bowlers.

Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul put on a 68-run stand for the opening wicket, while Sai Sudharsan chipped in with a patient innings at No. 3. India eventually declared at 448/5, leaving the West Indies with a mountain to climb.

West Indies collapse in both innings

The West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first, but their innings never took off. They only scored 162 runs, with captain Shai Hope (26), Roston Chase (24), and Justin Greaves (32) putting up a brief fight.

India’s bowlers took control from the start. Mohammed Siraj (4/40) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/42) led the attack, while Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar picked up two and one wickets respectively.

In the second innings, West Indies on day three were bowled out for 146. Alick Athanaze top-scored with 38, while Jayden Seales entertained the crowd briefly with 22 off 12 balls, including two sixes.

Siraj was again effective with 3/31, Kuldeep took 2/23, Sundar added one wicket, and Jadeja completed the demolition with 4/54.
