Barabati Stadium, Cuttack | 9 February, 2025 – India successfully chased down a target of 305 runs, defeating England by four wickets in the second ODI to take a dominant 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
- England 304 (49.5 overs)
- India 308-6 (44.3 overs)
With the masterclass performance of skipper Rohit Sharma who scored 119 runs in 90 balls, India achieved the target of 305 runs in 44.3 overs with a surplus of 33 balls in their hands. His spectacular inning included stunning 12 fours alongside seven sixes, receiving the Player of the Match title.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave India a phenomenal start, making a 136 run aggressive opening partnership in 16.4 overs. The match faced an unexpected interruption due to a floodlight failure, but it did not disrupt Rohit and Gill’s aggressive approach. India made 77 runs in 10 overs. Rohit Sharma reached his half-century in 30 balls and went on to score his 32nd ODI century being the first Indian to score five centuries by hitting a six which he accomplished in 76 balls.
Shubman Gill scored his half-century in 45 balls before being pulled out by Overton on 60 while Virat Kohli (8) was sold off cheaply to Adil Rashid.
India had a few stumbling blocks at the finishing line when they lost Shreyas Iyer (44) to a run out, KL Rahul (10 off 14 balls), and Hardik Pandya (10 off 6 balls) rather quickly. But India got home with ease, thanks to the efforts of Axar Patel (41*) and Ravindra Jadeja (11*).

England’s Innings: 304 All Out in 49.5 Overs
England chose to bat first after winning the toss. They scored 304 runs before being bowled out in just under 50 overs. Ben Duckett and Phil Salt added 81 runs for the first wicket in 10.5 overs before Salt was dismissed for 26 runs. But after Duckett went out on 65 England found it difficult to pile on the runs. Joe Root top-scored with 69. Liam Livingstone’s quickfire 41 helped push the total over 300.
Even with top six English batters scoring over 25 runs, England could not make the most out of the promising beginning. Jadeja’s pivotal strength was dismissing Root, Duckett and Overton which enabled India to bowl out England. Furthermore, three of the English players, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid and Mark Wood, were run out which added to the batsman’s suffering.
